Lucky You!

If you forgot where we left off, here’s Part 1 of the Designer Denim series.

So, by now you’ve visited your local stores and tried on a few pairs of designer jeans. You’ve narrowed your choices down what style you want to buy – bootcut, skinny, wide leg, trouser, etc. – and you have a few notes on what brands you like.

Now what?

I would start by reading reviews of different brands to see how they compare to your notes. There are several places where you can read denim reviews, but a few of my favorites are:

Denim Debutante

I will give 100% credit to Jaime for introducing me to the world of designer jeans. She knows what she’s talking about and can probably find you a perfect pair. Check out her reviews and guest posts to see how different brands run and what they look like on different figures.

Authentic Forum

This is a group of very serious denim fanatics. If you have any doubts about an eBay listing or a thrift store find, these ladies and gents can discern the real deal from the fakes. Of course, you can use this forum to read reviews of different cuts and washes. If it’s not here, you might not find it anywhere!

Denimology

Tons of celebrity pics and useful reviews of many, many denim brands. I like to look through for celebrities about my height and shape… not necessarily the same size.

Once you’ve narrowed down your selections, you can start hunting. If you’re a newbie, I recommend actually visiting the stores in person before you venture into online shopping. You’ll get to that point eventually. But fear not, I found the best deal on designer denim at the Off 5TH (discount store for Saks Fifth Avenue) store at Arundel Mills Mall in Hanover, MD. That is where I was able to find (and purchase) a pair of Paige Premium Denim jeans for only $16: retail price $189! Pretty slammin’ deal… and I have faith you can do the same!

Some of the retail locations I’d recommend for starters are:

  • Marshall’s/TJ Maxx
  • Gabriel Bros/Rugged Wearhouse
  • Buffalo Exchange
  • Nordstrom Rack
  • Goodwill/Thrift stores

Do you have any other suggestions for where to find great deals on designer denim?

Thanks so much for this Erin! I have a pretty free weekend, so maybe I can go hunting. We have Potomac Mills near me and they have most of the stores you listed to try. Can’t wait to find a great new pair of jeans!

Awesome! You know how to reach me if you run into problems!! 🙂 I’d try Citizens of Humanity if you can find them – they weren’t on my original list but I think you’d like them!
