For our third Etsy Spotlight, I asked Sharon from Cymbaline’s Designs if she wouldn’t mind answering a few questions and sharing her creative process.  The store includes bold florals, innocent pearls, and funky baubles to create a bold look!  I absolutely love everything in her store, so I hope you’ll take a second to go check it out!

Thanks so much, Sharon!  Here are the spotlight questions:

How long have you been making jewelry?  How did you get involved in it?
I’ve been making jewelry since I was about 13~ I started out with memory wire bracelets, after getting one for myself and wanting to make them. I made one, and then one turned into more and more.

What inspires you to create jewelry?
I think the designs themselves, the colors that are a part of them, and the ideas that are always in my head inspire me. I want every design I think of become a reality, though a lot of times they don’t all get out. I’m always thinking out new color combinations for my floral jewelry, and lately I’ve been thinking about different types, like trying different pendants~ something besides the floral jewelry.

What are some of your favorite colors/patterns? How do you incorporate them into your work?
My favorite patterns are the ones that involve flowers~ my very favorite necklaces involve a large flower pendant and a complimentary string of beads behind it~ it’s simple, and yet bold at the same time. I think I have a favorite color every week~ there are just so many colors, and color combinations, out there! And when I am in love with a color, I try to use it as many different ways as I can.

What is your workroom like?  What conditions lead you to create the best work?
My work room is a bit of a mess. I had help from my wonderful boyfriend Mike in creating a large room for me in the basement. The thing I like about my room is all the art that I put on the walls. I enjoy finding all different kinds of art, from whimsical prints to photographs of places that I would like to do to.  Ideally, a neat room is the best condition in which to work in, but that doesn’t normally happen. I really like to have music on when I am working.

How long does each piece take to design and create?
It takes about a half an hour to create a necklace. I like to design things on the spur of the moment sometimes~ if a certain color combination comes into my head, I try to make it right there.  I like my jewelry to be flexible~ I have a favorite design, and can change up the colors to make each piece different. This has worked very well in the past, when I have created customized pieces for people who had another color scheme in mind.

What is your favorite product so far?
My favorite product is the Pewter and Pink Posy necklace from my shop~ it’s an asymmetrical brass necklace wish a filigree metal flower that is accented by a dark gray flower in the middle. It has a string of mauve pink pearls. I really love that hue of pink, and how it goes with gray.

That pewter and pink posy necklace is to die for. I hardly wear necklaces and I would wear that all the freakin’ time. Or if that flower was turned into a ring. So pretty! I’ll keep this seller bookmarked 🙂
