Bridal Event at Costco

Calling all Brides!

Costco recently announced that it will begin selling bridal gowns featuring designs from L.A. designer Kirstie Kelly.  The gowns, available in a large range of sizes (2 through 24), will be sold at 40% off at in-store trunk sales on the west coast.

According to the L.A. Times, there are six gowns available in the collection, and prices range from $699 to $1,399.  Kelly’s gowns typically cost anywhere from $2,000 to $7,000.

From the Times article:

Each of the Costcouture gowns features a fully constructed bodice, or corset, inside the gown. The fabrics range from lush satins to silk organzas to Alencon lace, incorporating crystal and pearl beading as well as handmade details such as flowers. Fingertip and cathedral-length veils are also available.

The pop-up salons are staffed with Kirstie Kelly employees. The salons are walled and carpeted, or, as Kelly says, “You can’t see the person with the roasted chicken and the toilet paper.”

I’m assuming that since Costco is membership-only, you will need to be a member to check out these pieces, but it certainly appears that it would be worth it!  If you’re looking for a dress, you might consider making an appointment:

  • Torrance Costco: March 3 to March 6, 2011
  • San Bernardino Costco: March 10 to March 13, 2011
  • Los Feliz Costco: March 17 to March 20, 2011
  • Van Nuys Costco: March 24 to March 27, 2011

Here’s hoping this is something Costco decides to continue nationwide, perhaps expanding to a variety of designers.

I have to ask, would you buy your wedding dress at Costco?

  1. I don’t know how successful this will be. Costco (well the ones in Canada) doesn’t have any change rooms and no big mirrors. Something as important as a wedding dress NEEDS to be tried on and looked at from all angles. I’ve seen those pop up stores selling coats which is easy but I also saw swimsuits which I didn’t really get. I think they will get a lot of people browsing but not many sales. What about alterations too?

Ah good point… I am wondering if the employees who will be there from Kirstie Kelly are going to be helping with fit and tailoring. I had assumed that there would be fitting rooms set up, but maybe not! Good question… hopefully some bloggers on the west coast will check it out and give some feedback!

Interesting concept… I think I’d have to stop by and see what they look like. If they are staffing the Costco shows like a boutique, I wouldn’t have a problem with buying my wedding dress there. Although, my mother might think otherwise! LOL!
