Have you heard the news about Urban Outfitters?

I was just prowling around on Twitter, and I was more than a little interested when I saw that Urban Outfitters was a trending topic.  Curiosity got the best of me and I clicked the link to see what was going on.

Much to my chagrin, it wasn’t anything positive.  Turns out, UO has been up to some bad business.  They’ve stolen not just the design, but also the some of the ITEM NAMES and COPY from the jewelry being sold at an independent Etsy store!

Check out the full story here.

And just so the Etsy seller gets some more (well-deserved) traffic to her site, here’s my favorite from her store:

i heart Texas.

i heart Texas.

Yeah, I know I’m from Maryland… but I mean, I’ve been working with people from Austin all week. And Texas is pretty awesome 🙂

Hook ’em Horns!  (And Gig ’em Aggies! lol)

So, I have to ask…

What do you think about this story?? Are you outraged or ambivalent?  Are you joining the boycott of Urban Outfitters and their other stores, Free People and Anthropologie?

OMG. i heart that necklace SO much!

  2. Elaine A says:

it’s so sad that big named stores with a ton of money feel the need to rip off an indpendent small entrepreneur. They should be ashamed of themselves!

I agree! I’m interested to see how they’ll remedy the situation. For such a “hipster” store, you’d think they would have just contacted her to see if it would be okay to sell her stuff in their stores. Not that difficult!
