As you know, I’m a pretty frugal person. I don’t like to spend a lot of money on any one thing, unless it’s significantly marked down or a great value. So how did I end up spending over $45 for flip flops when I could easily get a pair for under $5? (They’re as low as $1 if you get to the Old Navy store at the right time!)
Blame my sister. She made me a believer.
She went to college in a beach town, Wilmington, NC. Her first year there, she discovered Rainbow sandals. She would tell me how great they were, how comfortable and amazing, how much I would love them… but I didn’t listen. I was happy enough in my one-and-done annual plastic Old Navy flips, and I didn’t want to spend the money. Finally, I got fed up after ruining my third pair of cheapskate sandals of the year. I scheduled a visit to see my sister and I decided I’d invest in a pair of Rainbows so I’d fit in while I was in town.
I have to admit that at first, Rainbow sandals are almost uncomfortably tight. They pinched between my toes and made my feet sore after a full day’s wear. I toughed it out with my sister’s guidance (and who was I to give up on a pair of sandals that cost nearly $50!?) and after about a week, they began to give.
Fast forward to four years later, and my Rainbows are without a doubt my go-to footwear. They are perfectly conformed to my feet and I can walk in them for hours without the slightest discomfort. The leather has worn beautifully and the soles are holding up great, even after four summers of intense near-daily wear. I loved them so much, I now have two more colors! (Classic black and red – perfect for Maryland football games!) I also bought a pair for my best friend and my boyfriend. Talk about spreading the love! 🙂
Rainbow sandals are available online at rainbowsandals.com (check the sale/clearance section for deals!), and I’ve seen them sold at Nordstrom, PacSun, and many other stores! My recommendation? Try them on at Nordstrom or another store, then order online so you can get the most bang for your buck.
Are you a Rainbow believer? Are they too expensive for your taste? Weigh in in the comments!
