I haven’t discussed it here before, but in case you weren’t aware, I am a HUGE football fan. I get downright giddy when the news starts talking about training camps, free agency… I even watch the NFL draft! I’m also a sportswear collector. I have 4 or 5 NFL jerseys, 2 college jerseys (thanks to my sister – best hand-me-up ever? I think so) and even one NHL jersey!
What are the best places to nab a jersey for yourself or a loved one?
If you don’t really care about whose jersey you wear, right now is a great time to score a super cheap one. For example, a Donovan McNabb Redskins jersey is going for just $9.95 from the official Redskins team store. That’s a huge savings from the original price of $85.00! (Yeah, so he plays for the Vikings now, but so what? He seems like a good guy…and #5 is a good number…) Men’s, ladies’, and child styles are available! They’re also selling Jason Campbell (who is QB of the Raiders now), and Albert Haynesworth (future all-star for the Patriots, mark my words) for just $9.95.
You can also check out eBay, thrift stores, Goodwill… I have seen great quality jerseys for sale at a great price.
Tip: If you’re pretty small like me, you can probably wear child sized jerseys. Two of mine are child size XL, and one’s even a size L. They were a lot cheaper and just as good quality as the men’s and women’s styles.
If you’re lucky, you may also know someone who can get you jerseys for cheap. I’m not sure how this works, but the quality I’ve seen is pretty good and the jerseys have held up over several wash cycles. Usually the prices are a bit higher since the players are current, but I’ve gotten kids size jerseys for under $30, which is a decent discount from full price.
There are also countless sports stores in the mall that may be running promotions. Try to find coupons online before you stop in, just to get an extra discount when you buy!
Update: Just got word from Twitter that BornTradeJersey.com is a great place to buy jerseys. I can’t recommend it myself since I just heard about it this morning, but I trust the fellow who suggested it. Let me know if you’ve shopped there before!
Where do you get your sports jerseys? And how many do you have? Am I the only crazy collector out there? 🙂
