We’ve discussed our thoughts on return shipping from online orders before. I personally feel that all return shipping should be free. If you are a non-standard size (short, tall, slim, plus size, etc.), many times retailers force you to shop online to find your size. This means that you could pay $10 or more just to find out that something doesn’t look good or fit right. I can’t tell you the number of times I’ve kept an item I bought online simply because I was stubborn. “Well, I paid for the shipping fees, so I will make it work.” Bad attitude, and it led to some seriously ill-fitting clothing.
But there’s good news on the horizon!
Nordstrom announced yesterday that from now on, ALL orders will ship free – no minimums, every day! Even better, returns are free too! (There was, however, a note mentioning that international orders do not apply to this program – bummer!)
Rue La La, a well-known sample sale website, also introduced a new shipping program recently. With the new Rue 30 plan, you pay $9.95 shipping once, then receive free standard shipping for 30 days!
From the Rue La La website:
We’re putting on our party hats. Throwing confetti. And definitely making a few impromptu purchases. The Rue 30 is here, it’s new, and we’re so excited to introduce it to our Members. Now when you make a purchase and pay $9.95 for shipping, for the next 30 days your shipping is free.
Other retailers that are shipping-friendly:
- Asos: Free shipping internationally, but returns are free only in the UK.
- Zappos: Free shipping and returns
- Endless.com: Free shipping and returns
- Piperlime: Free shipping and returns
- Lands’ End: Free returns (and frequent free shipping codes)
Here’s hoping that more stores will follow Nordstrom’s lead!
What do you think – are retailers finally starting to come around? Do you have any other retailers to add to the ship-friendly list?
