I received an email from a friend of mine detailing her recent Urban Outfitters score. She was able to snag the Sparkle & Fade Moto Sweater Jacket in a gorgeous bright red for… well, I’ll let her tell you the story:
Found this sweater on the sale rack at Urban Outfitters.
Originally $99. Although online it’s marked down to $49.99, it was $59.99 in store. However, they were also having an extra 30% off sale items in store. So I was almost happy with the $40 price tag for a comfy red sweater jacket with some interesting styling.
However, as you’ll see in the photo, the left shoulder tab had come unattached. I found other jackets in the same size, but each one had a thread that was loose, and I figured the unattached tab would be easier to fix. I decided to negotiate for a lower price due to the defect. I asked if they would consider knocking down the price because of the imperfection, and they agreed! At first I thought they knocked it down to a final price of $29.99, but it turned out that they took it down to $29.99 BEFORE applying the 30% discount. So in the end, it was about $20!
Impressive, my dear friend. Hope you love your new sweater jacket – send pix of how you style it! It looks like an awesome investment 🙂
Who else has great negotiation stories? I know some of you have some!
