The Comfort Shoe Everyone Makes Fun Of — Until They Try It

The Comfort Shoe Everyone Makes Fun Of — Until They Try It

I’ll be honest with you: I held out on Crocs for a long time. I’d see them on other people and think no thank you. Then someone whose opinion I respect showed up to a backyard cookout in a pair, looked completely unbothered, and told me her feet had never felt better.

That was four years ago. I now own five pairs and I will not be taking questions.

If you’re where I was — curious but skeptical — this is the post for you. And if you’re already a convert, keep reading, because there are a few things worth knowing about fit, colors, and styles beyond the classics.

Note: Crocs recently dropped a collaboration with Vibram — the Classic EXP Clog — for anyone searching for a more rugged version. It’s not currently available on Amazon, but worth checking out if you want something trail-ready.

What Makes Them Good

Crocs Classic Clogs are made from Croslite foam — a proprietary closed-cell resin that’s simultaneously lightweight, cushioned, and weirdly durable. They have ventilation ports so your feet can breathe, a pivoting back strap so you can wear them as a clog or a slide, and they’re fully waterproof. You can clean them with soap and water in about 30 seconds.

Nurses wear them for 12-hour shifts. Chefs wear them in hot kitchens. Parents wear them for literally everything. Kids are rough on them and don’t care. There’s a reason they’ve been a perennial bestseller on Amazon for years — they genuinely hold up.

One Sizing Note

Crocs run a bit large. You may want to size down to the next whole size for a good fit. If you’re normally a women’s 8, try a 7.

Shop by Who They’re For

👟 For adults (women): The Classic Clog comes in an enormous range of colors — black and white are the most versatile and the ones I reach for most, but the fun colors (electric pink, bright cobalt, lemon yellow) are genuinely great if you want something that makes an outfit. The back strap is clutch for anything more active than standing around. (That’s called “Sport Mode” for the uninitiated.)

👟 For kids: Kids are basically the ideal Crocs demographic — they’re easy to get on and off (huge for the preschool crowd), completely waterproof (equally huge), and durable enough to survive the kind of treatment kids give shoes. They come in the same color range as adult sizes, so matching family pairs are very much a thing people do. They also hold their value well and can often be resold on Poshmark, eBay, or neighborhood yard sales after your kiddos outgrow them.

Make Them Yours: Jibbitz Charms

If you have kids, you already know about Jibbitz. They’re the little charms that snap into the ventilation holes on Crocs — and they have turned a foam shoe into a full-on customization hobby for an entire generation of children. There are thousands of options: food, animals, letters, sports teams, characters. My daughter takes the curation of her Jibbitz very seriously, and honestly? Same.

Beyond the Classics: More From Crocs

Crocs Classic Platform Clog Same shoe, elevated — literally. The Platform Clog adds a 1.6-inch contoured outsole that gives you a little boost without sacrificing any of the comfort. It’s become a favorite for people who love Crocs but want something that works a little harder for an outfit. The backstrap also holds Jibbitz, so full customization intact.

Disney x Crocs (Kids) If your kid is a Disney fan, these are dangerous — in the best way. The Mickey & Minnie styles come with pre-attached Jibbitz charms and have been a consistent bestseller. Fair warning: once they see these exist, the regular ones may no longer be acceptable. My family wore matching insulated holiday Disney Crocs for an entire day at Magic Kingdom last Christmas and our feet were oh so thankful for them.

Crocs Echo Wave This is the one that’s been all over TikTok lately — and honestly, it earns the attention. The Echo Wave takes the comfort you know and wraps it in a digitally-inspired sculpted texture that cascades from the upper all the way down the outsole. It looks completely different from a Classic Clog but feels just as easy to wear. One sizing note: the Echo collection runs large, so size down a full size.

The Bottom Line

Are they ugly? That’s a matter of ongoing debate. Will your feet feel like they’re walking on clouds? Absolutely. Once you try them, you’ll understand why people who swore they’d never own a pair end up buying a second.

Don’t say we didn’t warn you.
